Our Favourite Australian Swimwear Editorials

Kato Swim was recently lucky enough to be featured in an Australian swimwear editorial shoot for iMute Magazine, styled by the wonderful Jessica Chan. The Gritty Webitorial features our Billy Halter bikini top and Iggy brazilian briefs both in Maui.

It got me thinking about some of my favourite Australian swimwear editorials that we’ve been a part of, such as this editorial for Fitness First magazine styled by Kelly Smythe, with the Blake one piece swimsuit and the Melody bikini top and Tasha Scrunchy bottoms:

Dolly is one of our favourite magazines to be featured in because of it’s young, fresh editorials:

Swim, surf and shop in Torquay, Victoria

If you follow me on instagram, you’ll know that I recently spent the weekend in Melbourne. While I absolutely adore the city, my favourite part was our trip to Torquay, a surf town on the coast of Victoria and the gateway to the Great Ocean Road.

The Torquay area is home to some of the world’s best surf beaches, including the famous Bells Beach – home to the world’s longest-running surfing competition, the Rip Curl Pro Surf & Music Festival. Because of this, a lot of the most well known surf and swimwear brands are located in Torquay at the Surf City Plaza. Brands like Quiksilver, Rip Curl, Billabong and Roxy have their major outlets here, and it’s also home to the museum SurfWorld, which celebrates the story of surfing. Quite possibly the best part about Surf City Plaza, is the incredible Quiksilver flagship store, complete with a cafe and surf board carousel.

The next best thing about Torquay, after the beaches and surfing hotspots, is the food. If you love surfing, shopping and food then Torquay is the place to be. My top recommendations are:

We stopped by Fisho’s for lunch, a local fish and chip shop with a healthy twist. All the fish is freshly line caught, with an amazing selection of salads and sides (I highly recommend the sweet potato cakes). It’s a pretty casual setting, but the location is beautiful and the food couldn’t be any fresher.

Sticks and Stones Cafe

Sticks and Stones Cafe

Nestled in-between Oakley and and Ripcurl in Surf City Plaza, this is the perfect place for a coffee pick-me-up in-between buying bikinis. Amazing coffee and treats will keep you shopping for hours.

Blackman’s Brewery
26 Bell Street, Torquay VIC 3228

Blackman’s Brewery is a boutique brewery and restaurant located 500m from the beach, that boasts a share style, beer-food menu to complement Blackman’s hand crafted beers. Plus they offer public brew days and brewery tours so you can learn how it’s done.

If you’re after a spot for breakfast and a coffee, Pond Cafe comes highly recommended. The coffee is great, the service is quick and the food is simple but fresh.

Welcome to our new 2016 swimwear website

Welcome to the new Kato Swim look for 2016.

We’ve spent the last year hard at work preparing everything for the 2016 swimwear collection launch, Aloha! Aloha is our tribute to the modern surfer girl. Influenced by the movie Blue Crush (and the article that inspired it, ‘Life’s Swell’ by Susan Orlean), we’ve worked up some new styles and some gorgeous prints that reflect this iconic movie.

If you haven’t already checked it out, head over to the aloha lookbook page to get the whole story and explore the range.

The Kato Swim 2016 Swimwear Launch

The 2016 swimwear launch itself is a two parter. We’ve released the Isla Reversible Triangle Bikini, the Bianca in the Blue Crush Print, The Blake Twist One Piece in the Maui Print and the Iggy in the Blue Crush print. There’s still more to come so stay tuned for the next release.

We’ve also spent the last year redesigning the website to fit in with the more modern look of luxury swimwear and to provide you with better details on each product. So lots of new in-depth content, hero texts, full width images, sliders and long scrolling mobile friendly pages. We feel this will help express the philosophy behind our designs better, and build a connection between us and our customers.

If you’re keen to know what’s under the hood, we’ve switched to WooCommerce as our e-commerce shop base and couldn’t be happier.

On our blog you can find posts about what goes on at Kato Swim; our travels, favourite summer spots, the making of our swimsuits and general inspiration. If there’s anything you’d like to see more of, we’d love to hear it!

Beyond the Breakers

On a perfect Summer’s day our Sydney swimwear was lucky enough to be featured in a shoot along Sydney’s Eastern beaches. The creative mastermind behind the shoot was Jessica Chan.

Jessica Chan is a budding stylist who I had the pleasure of catching up with over a fresh juice. Jess is the official stylist for The Fern Events, Fashion Editor for Madame Sydney and comes highly recommended.

The shoot was photographed by Benjamin Gellie (benjamingellie.com), modelled by Nele (London Mgt Group) and Hair and makeup was perfectly executed by Olga Tishkov (olgatishkov.com.au).

Neda Silk Loose Tee

This is a tee, but not as you might know it. In shape it follows the classic T-shirt concept, but that is where it ends. Neda is made from top quality silk chiffon. Chiffon can be made from cotton, silk, or synthetic, but silk is superior. A single layer of silk chiffon is too sheer for most, so this top is made from a double layer of silk, so that you can wear it without an undergarment – but that is up to you. The feel of this silk fabric is luxurious against the skin – there is no substitute for top quality natural materials. There is a downside: this material is fragile and must be cared for. Gently hand wash only.

Neda Silk Loose Tee  is available in very limited quantities in marshmallow or lime yellow.

Anika OnePiece Swimsuit

Anika. Found in many languages this name means ‘graceful’ in many, ‘unique’ in Arabic, Goddess Durga in Sanskrit, oh, and Apricot from Nara in Japanese.

Triangle Bikini Flashback: the Bianca, at Bondi

The weather hasn’t been too good for Sydney has it? If you’re like me you’ve been dreaming all year of the beach and a long hot summer. You’ve got all these new Triangle Bikinis. Then it rains for a whole week.

Ohh well…we can always dream.

Triangle Bikini Flashback

Today I thought I’d treat everyone trapped indoors to a flash-back of sorts to our shoot of our Triangle Bikini from last summer.

So, this is Roberta.

The Bianca Bikini Top worn by Roberta Pecoraro

She’s a Sydney-side model and a big dreamer that we were lucky enough to grab a day to shoot with.

Our Triangle Bikini at Bondi Beach

Lucky us, we had a beautiful day in Sydney. We grabbed our gear and headed down to Bondi. We met up with the talented Sydney Photographer, Ana Suntay-Tanedo to shoot the Bianca Triangle Bikini for our Tropicana Lookbook.

These shots are amazing and we can’t thank Ana & Roberta enough for their time and expertise.

Triangle Bikini Set shot for Kato Swim

I think that If you haven’t laid eyes on the Bianca Triangle Bikini, its neon orange straps might appear enhanced in these photos. But I can say they really are that vivid.

Reverse shot of the Neon Triangle Bikini (Bianca)

We couldn’t find any Watermelon flavoured Ice Creams around last year. I’m hopeful there might be a few around this year.

I can’t imagine a better place to spend a day off than Bondi Beach this summer. When it stops raining we’ll be back out there again.

Kato Swim Hosting Upgrades

Over the past few weeks we’ve set about changing our hosting environment to something that better serves you. The new servers are quicker, greener and hotter, which results in a better user experience for our customers. You might notice that your cart loads faster, or that the checkout page doesn’t take forever to load. Thats about it really, its pretty much like getting new togs for summer, the beach will still look the same, but life just feels better maybe? Anyway enjoy!
